Shimla:
The Himachal Pradesh government received 23 proposals for the reorganisation of panchayats, but the State Election Commission has put an immediate stop to the process.
The Chief Electoral Officer has outlined five key reasons for the decision, including procedural lapses, legal objections, incomplete records, violation of set norms and the need to maintain neutrality ahead of the elections.
With the government expected to pursue the issue further, the matter may now be escalated to Raj Bhavan for final consideration.
Major administrative, political pause
The Election Commission’s intervention has created a major administrative and political pause in the ongoing discussions over panchayat boundary changes in the state.
