Hamirpur: In a horrific incident that has sent shockwaves across Himachal Pradesh, a 35-year-old man allegedly abducted and sexually assaulted a 65-year-old woman in a secluded forest near Bhota in Hamirpur district. The brutal crime, which took place on the night of May 17, has left the community in disbelief and outrage.

The elderly woman was returning from a relative’s house around 10 pm when she reached the Bhota bus stand. The accused, who was on a scooter, offered her a lift, claiming he was heading towards Jahu and would drop her at the Jahu bus stand.

However, instead of taking her to the promised location, he diverted towards a deserted jungle.
There, he allegedly beat and sexually assaulted her while also threatening to kill her.

The traumatised woman cried for help throughout the night, but due to the remote location, no one heard her screams. Injured and terrified, she somehow managed to escape around 1.30 am and reached Bhota town, where she immediately reported the crime to the police.

Acting promptly on her complaint, the Hamirpur police registered a case and launched a search operation. Superintendent of Police (SP) Bhagat Singh Thakur confirmed the arrest of the accused, a married man, within hours of the incident. The accused was apprehended from the same jungle where the crime occurred.

SP Thakur assured that a thorough investigation was underway and that the accused will face strict legal action. The police have also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities immediately.
