The Himachal Pradesh government has unveiled a series of ambitious projects aimed at boosting agriculture, tourism, healthcare, education, and infrastructure across the state.

These initiatives are designed to enhance the overall quality of life for residents and promote sustainable development.

Agriculture and Horticulture

The government has announced the establishment of a ‘Centre of Excellence in Horticulture’ to serve as a one-stop resource centre for quality, skill development, tourism, and market-related needs.

Additionally, two processing units will be set up in the state’s sub-tropical regions, along with the establishment of foundation blocks for mother trees/bud wood banks to promote guava, lemon, and other sub-tropical fruits.

The upcoming apple season in 2024 will witness the introduction of universal cartons for packaging.

Fisheries

To promote new fisheries in a 20-hectare area, fishermen will receive 80% financial assistance for the construction of new fish ponds. Furthermore, a new ‘Carp Fish Farm’ will be established in Hamirpur district as a Centre of Excellence.

Infrastructure and Energy

Several solar power projects are set to be commissioned, including a 32-megawatt solar power project in Pekhluwa, the largest in the state, by March 2024. Additionally, a 10-megawatt solar power plant in Aghalor, Una, and a 5-megawatt solar power project in Bhanjal, Una, are expected to be completed by June 2024 and September 2024, respectively.

Tourism

The government plans to develop 16 heliports, with the first phase including heliports in locations such as Jasakot in Hamirpur, Rakkad and Palampur in Kangra, Sultanpur in Chamba, and others. Furthermore, a skywalk bridge will be constructed at the famous tourist spot of Hasan Valley near Kufri.

Health and Education

In the healthcare sector, the government has announced the establishment of a State Cancer Institute with modern diagnostic and treatment facilities at Dr. Radhakrishnan Medical College in Hamirpur. Additionally, various initiatives, including the establishment of Cancer Day Care Centres at district hospitals and selected ‘Adarsh Swasthya Kendras,’ are aimed at providing chemotherapy and palliative care to cancer patients.

Education

In the education sector, efforts are being made to improve infrastructure and educational standards. This includes the transformation of General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) schools into nursing colleges, the establishment of lactation management centres at designated hospitals, and the implementation of the 5+3+3+4 education system in schools.
