Ex-PM Manmohan Singh’s death: All government offices, educational institutions to stay closed in Himachal for 2 days

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh has declared a two-day state holiday on December 27 and 28 to mourn the demise of former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.
During this period, all state government offices, boards, corporations and educational institutions will remain closed. Daily wage employees will also be granted leave with pay for these days.
The announcement follows a directive issued by the Joint Secretary of the state Home Department, Praveen Kumar Tak, in light of the Central Government’s declaration of a seven-day national mourning from December 26 to January 1.

CM Sukhu, other leaders express grief

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed profound sorrow over the demise of Manmohan Singh, calling it an irreparable loss to the nation and the Congress.
“With his passing, an era in Indian politics has come to an end. Dr Singh’s visionary leadership, simplicity and economic expertise reshaped India’s economy and elevated its global stature. His contributions will be remembered for generations, serving as a constant source of inspiration. I pray for his soul to rest in peace and for strength to his grieving family during this challenging time,” said CM Sukhu.

Leader of Opposition too pays tribute

Former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition, Jai Ram Thakur, also paid his respects, stating, “The entire nation is mourning the loss of Dr Manmohan Singh. Known for his simplicity and humility, he made remarkable contributions as an economist and Prime Minister. His efforts for the upliftment of all sections of society will always be remembered. May God grant peace to the departed soul and strength to his family and admirers in this time of grief.”
Manmohan Singh, widely regarded as one of India’s most distinguished economists and statesmen, leaves behind a legacy of leadership and service that will continue to inspire the nation.
