Dharamshala: Vivek Singh, the Chancellor of Arni University, had officially communicated with the local police on December 29, 2023, stating that non-teaching staff, who had recently left the university, were threatening him. The letter was addressed to the Station Head Officer of the Indora police station.

Adding to the alarming situation, Singh also reported to the district administration in a separate letter on December 30, 2023, that the emergency number (112) was not functioning.

“We tried to call the emergency number 112 twice, but regret to mention that no help was provided till the time,” the letter stated.

It also expressed great concern over a senior district magistrate allegedly warning Singh of possible unlawful detention.

Ashok Rattan (IPS), the Superintendent of Police in the district, confirmed that the police took prompt action upon receiving the complaint.

“We registered an FIR and provided him with security,” he added.

While Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu was away in Delhi, Leader of the Opposition Jairam Thakur shared news of the incident on social media, questioning the government’s foreign tours seeking investment when businessmen within the state were reportedly not safe under its jurisdiction.
