It is a matter of pride for the region that Dr. Indu Sharma, a talented daughter of Nyangal village, has successfully earned her Ph.D. degree in Education from a private university in Punjab, bringing honor to her parents and community.
Her research topic was “A Comparative Study of Excessive Smartphone Use Among Senior Secondary School Students of Different Streams in Relation to Their Study Habits and Academic Achievement.” The study was conducted across six districts of Himachal Pradesh—Kangra, Hamirpur, Una, Solan, Mandi, and Shimla.
The findings revealed that Arts stream students use smartphones more extensively than Science stream students. Moreover, a negative correlation was found between excessive non-academic smartphone use and students’ study habits and academic achievement—indicating that those who spend more time on smartphones for non-educational purposes tend to show weaker study quality and lower academic performance.
Dr. Indu Sharma is the granddaughter of Late Shri Shivram and Smt. Jiyuni Devi, and the daughter of Shri Gyan Chand and Smt. Veena Devi. She is the first girl in her family to achieve a Ph.D. degree. She credited her success to the blessings, guidance, and support of her parents, relatives, and respected teachers.
Her achievement has been warmly celebrated by villagers and well-wishers, who extended congratulations and wished her a bright future. Dr. Sharma’s success stands as a source of inspiration for other students in the region.
