Doctors on strike in Himachal Pradesh to protest

Dharamshala: Despite persistent pleas to the government, the shortage of doctors in Himachal Pradesh’s hospitals remains unattended. Consequently, the Himachal Pradesh Medical Association has opted for a strike starting Tuesday (Feb 20).

Doctors will abstain from OPD duties from 9 am to 12 noon, impacting patients, particularly those traveling from remote areas for routine check-ups.

Kumar Saurabh, the vice president of the association, highlighted their modest demand for a non-practicing allowance (NPA), which has been overlooked by the government, opting instead to merge it with the salaries of newly recruited doctors.

This issue has been raised previously with the government, including discussions with the Chief Minister, who, despite assurances of meeting minutes, has yet to address the matter. Faced with this impasse, the doctors have resorted to strike action, leaving them no alternative.

However, emergency services will continue uninterrupted.
