Shimla: In what appears to be one of the first decisive moves after assuming charge, the newly appointed Director General of Police (DGP) Himachal Pradesh, Ashok Tiwari, IPS, has launched a focused and high-impact crackdown on drug smuggling across the state. Under his leadership, Himachal Pradesh Police has achieved significant success in its intensified anti-narcotics campaign, being carried out under the guidance of the Chief Minister.
Over the last 24 hours alone, seven drug-related cases have been registered, indicating a strong and coordinated police response across multiple districts.
These include four cases in Mandi, and one each in Shimla, Police District Nurpur, and Kangra. Police recovered substantial quantities of charas and chitta, reaffirming the severity of the state’s ongoing drug problem.
A single case in Sundernagar police station (Mandi district) led to the seizure of 2.532 kg of charas, while two other cases resulted in the recovery of 498 grams of charas. Furthermore, 46.67 grams of heroin were seized from a local accused in separate cases registered across four districts.
All accused have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and investigations are being carried out on priority.
According to official sources, several smugglers have been arrested in this 24-hour period, marking a major breakthrough in the ongoing war against drug trafficking in the region.
Commenting on the developments, DGP Ashok Tiwari emphasized the police department’s resolve: “Following the instructions of the Hon’ble Chief Minister, we are determined to win the fight against drug abuse and trafficking. This campaign will continue with full force.”
Observers see this as a strong message from the top brass of the police force under the new DGP’s leadership — that no tolerance will be shown toward drug traffickers, and the system will act swiftly and decisively.
As drug abuse continues to threaten the youth and social fabric of Himachal, this campaign is being welcomed as a much-needed and timely intervention, potentially setting the tone for a cleaner and safer future.
