Continuous heavy rainfall over the past four to five days has caused significant damage to several homes in the Balloon Bazaar area of Dalhousie Cantonment. Residents have reported the appearance of both minor and major cracks in their buildings, raising concerns about structural safety.
Chief Executive Officer of the Dalhousie Cantonment Board, Meval Christian, confirmed that upon receiving alerts from affected families, she immediately visited the site with Cantonment Engineer Arvind Sharma to inspect the damage and assess the situation.
Christian has urged all residents whose homes have developed cracks—or are showing signs of structural stress—to contact her office with photographic evidence. This will help facilitate the necessary permissions and actions in accordance with official protocols.
She further advised residents of severely damaged or unsafe buildings to relocate to safer locations without delay. In case of emergencies or natural disasters, arrangements have been made to accommodate displaced residents at the Cantonment Board School.
So far, seven individuals have officially reported damage to their homes. The affected residents include:
- Pradeep Sharma
- Salil Sharma
- Anju
- Amrit Kaur
- Harminder Singh
- Veer Singh
- Usha Rani
Additionally, cracks have also been observed on the grounds of the Cantonment Board School, prompting further inspection and precautionary measures.
