The Congress party registered a historic victory in the Chuwari Nagar Panchayat elections in Bhatiyat, Chamba district. Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania expressed heartfelt gratitude to the enlightened citizens of Chuwari for entrusting responsibility to Congress-supported candidates, with five out of seven newly elected councillors securing wins.
Addressing the gathering, Pathania thanked the people for their overwhelming support, noting that despite the elections not being held on party symbols, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had fielded candidates across Himachal Pradesh but faced complete defeat. He emphasized that the Congress party’s ideology continues to receive strong backing from the public, even after enduring hardships during the past three and a half years due to central government policies and repeated encroachments on state rights.
Pathania highlighted that in all three municipal bodies of Chamba district, the Congress party had decisively swept aside the BJP. In Chuwari, Congress-backed councillors include:
- Ward No. 1: Ruhi Devi
- Ward No. 2: Former Vice President Surender Singh Chadak
- Ward No. 3: Kulbhushan Dhiman (elected unopposed)
- Ward No. 4: Anita Devi
- Ward No. 6: Nitika Jamwal
The event was attended by Block Congress Committee President Vijay Singh Kanwar, Forest Corporation Board Chairman Krishan Chand Chela, State Co-operative Bank Director Rajkumar Chambial, District General Secretary Rajeev Kaushal, Wool Federation Director Ajay Singh, Youth Congress President Manjeet Singh, and several other party workers.
