Mandi: Police officer Bhagat Singh Thakur, currently commanding the Third Battalion Pandoh, is an outstanding law enforcement professional and an accomplished athlete.
He actively promotes sports activities within the battalion, encouraging many police constables to participate and facilitating their advancement.
Thakur boasts a national-level boxing championship and has represented internationally in various sports including badminton, volleyball, kabaddi, and kho-kho.
Beyond personal engagement, Thakur actively advocates for his colleagues’ involvement in sports, inspiring many within the police department to pursue athletic endeavors, resulting in significant achievements. Thakur firmly believes in the holistic benefits of sports, emphasizing its role in maintaining physical fitness, alleviating mental stress, and preventing diseases. He remains committed to fostering a culture of sportsmanship and continually strives to motivate others to embrace an active lifestyle.
Born in the Shimla district, Thakur excelled in boxing during his education at Bhagat Singh Thakur College, subsequently serving as a boxing coach at the National Institute of Sports for nearly a year in 1993.
Transitioning to his police career in 1994 as an Inspector, he held positions as SHO in Solan and Paonta Sahib. By 2000, he earned a promotion to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), serving in various capacities in Paonta Sahib, Rajgarh, and Parwanoo. Additionally, he fulfilled roles as Chief Security Officer at HP University and later as ASP in Bilaspur, Sirmaur, and Solan districts.
In 2015, his dedication led to his promotion to Superintendent of Police (SP), subsequently serving in notable positions such as SP Kinnaur, SP state CID Shimla, and AIG Railway and Traffic Police, among others.
Since September 29, 2022, he has held the position of Commandant of the Third Battalion Pandoh.
