The Nurpur Police has strongly refuted misleading and communal claims circulating on social media platforms (Twitter/X, Facebook, Instagram, etc.) regarding a video showing two women being assaulted. The police clarified that certain individuals are spreading false narratives by giving the incident a communal angle, which is completely baseless.
According to the official statement, the incident is purely a law‑and‑order matter involving an alleged chain‑snatching attempt followed by mob assault. There is no communal aspect to the case. An FIR (No. 188/2026) has already been registered at Police Station Nurpur under Sections 126(2), 115(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Further investigation revealed that both women seen in the video have multiple cases registered against them in Punjab under the ND&PS Act and theft/snatched‑chain offences. Another FIR (No. 189/2026) under Sections 304 and 3(5) BNS has been filed against them in Nurpur related to chain‑snatching. The police assured that a fair and thorough investigation is underway, and appropriate legal action will be taken based on evidence.
Nurpur Police emphasized that no individual has the right to take the law into their own hands, and the assault aspect of the incident is also being investigated seriously. Citizens are urged not to share unverified or communalized content on social media. Strict legal action will be taken against anyone spreading false or inflammatory information that threatens social harmony.
