Chamba DC inspects Manimahesh Yatra route, promises better facilities for pilgrims this year

Bharmaur: In a major step towards ensuring improved facilities for pilgrims undertaking the sacred Manimahesh Yatra, Chamba Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repaswal conducted an on-foot inspection of the yatra route from Hadsar to Dhancho.

Accompanied by a team of senior district officials, the DC reviewed arrangements for essential services and infrastructure along the revered pilgrimage path to one of North India’s holiest sites Shri Manimahesh Kailash, one of the five sacred Kailash peaks.

The inspection aimed to assess on-ground preparations for the upcoming pilgrimage season and identify areas needing urgent attention. The DC was joined by Superintendent of Police Abhishek Yadav and Additional District Magistrate Bharmaur Kulbir Singh Rana, along with officials from all key departments.

Key facilities reviewed: Roads, water, power & sanitation

During the trek, DC Repaswal evaluated arrangements for langars (community kitchens), resting areas, drinking water supply, electricity, public toilets, and road conditions. He instructed the Public Works Department (PWD) officials to immediately begin road repair work from Hadsar to Dunali, ensuring the route is made safer and more accessible for pilgrims.

Further, he directed that a second pedestrian bridge be constructed in Dunali to manage the high footfall during the yatra and ensure smooth movement of devotees.

Cleanliness campaign and waste collection drive

In a show of commitment to environmental sustainability, a cleanliness drive was also conducted during the return journey under the DC’s leadership. Officials and support staff collected eight bags of plastic waste from the route, which were transported back to Hadsar for disposal.

DC Repaswal also directed the Block Development Officer to launch a sanitation campaign up to Manimahesh at the earliest. The location for the construction of new toilets was identified and inspected, and power department officials were asked to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply throughout the yatra route.

Commitment to safe and devotional pilgrimage

Speaking on the occasion, Bharmaur ADM Kulbir Singh Rana assured that this year’s pilgrimage will see enhanced coordination among departments to offer a more comfortable and spiritually fulfilling experience for devotees. DC Repaswal emphasized that Manimahesh Yatra is not just a religious event but a matter of pride and responsibility for the district administration.

Present during the inspection were BDO Ramanveer Chauhan, AE of Jal Shakti Department Vivek Chandel, Electricity Board’s Krishan Chand, PWD’s Bhal Chand Thakur and various other officials and local residents.
