Chamba: A tragic accident occurred on Sunday evening in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district when an Alto car (UP20CJ-4824) veered off the road and plunged into a deep gorge near Chakri Nala on the Haloori-Bhadela main road in the Salooni subdivision.
The incident claimed the life of one person on the spot and left three others injured, one of them critically. All the car occupants were residents of Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh.
The deceased has been identified as Shahwaz (30) of Mivalana Road in Muzaffarnagar. Those injured have been identified as Mohammad Shoaib of Musheda Sadat village, Mohammad Shadab of Meerapur and Shamshad of Kakroli village.
Were selling gas stoves door-to-door
Among the injured, Shamshad sustained serious injuries and was referred to the Medical College in Chamba after initial treatment at the Civil Hospital in Kihar. The other two are reported to be in stable condition, receiving treatment at the Kihar hospital.
According to police sources, the four men had come to the Bhadela area to sell gas stoves door-to-door. After spending the day going from village to village, they were returning in the evening when the driver, Mohammad Shoaib, lost control of the vehicle near Chakri Nullah around 5.30 pm.
The car rolled down approximately 150 metres into a deep gorge, resulting in the immediate death of Shahwaz.
Rescue operation launched by local residents
Hearing the crash, local residents rushed to the spot and informed the authorities. A police team led by Kihar police station in-charge Akhilesh Singh and Sub-Inspector Anil Walia, along with an ambulance from Salooni, reached the scene swiftly and began rescue operations.
With the help of villagers, the police team retrieved the body of the deceased and rescued the injured, who were then shifted to the Civil Hospital in Kihar.
The police have registered a case and started an investigation into the cause of the accident.
