In the wake of the recent natural disaster in Himachal Pradesh, BJP’s media in-charge for Chamba district, Shishu Gupta, issued a press statement criticizing the Congress-led state government for its “insensitive and sluggish” response. Gupta alleged that the administration’s failure to act swiftly left citizens struggling during a time of crisis.
While the Congress government was accused of indulging in rhetoric and blame games, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) reportedly took prompt and concrete steps to aid affected communities. Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur personally visited disaster-hit areas, and under the leadership of State BJP President Dr. Rajeev Bindal, party workers and senior leaders mobilized relief materials across the region.
A high-level BJP delegation led by National President JP Nadda, including MPs, former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, and Dr. Bindal, met Union Ministers Amit Shah and Nitin Gadkari to request a special relief package for Himachal Pradesh.
Key outcomes of these efforts include:
- ₹451.44 crore released as the first installment of relief funds on July 7, 2025
- Approval of a ₹2,006.40 crore comprehensive aid package by the Central Government
- Deployment of NDRF, Army, ITBP, and Air Force for rescue and relief operations
- A central assessment team dispatched within 20 days of the June 18 disaster
Gupta contrasted these developments with the Congress government’s alleged lack of transparency and absence of a time-bound strategy. He claimed the state failed to effectively seek help from Delhi and refrained from acknowledging BJP’s contributions.
“The people of Himachal know who stood by them in their hour of need,” Gupta stated, reaffirming BJP’s commitment to public service and rehabilitation for every affected citizen.
