MANDI (Munish Sood)
In a barbaric incident, a teacher at Government High School at Kallar in Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh has been accused of physically assaulting a Class VII female student.
The allegations have triggered a formal investigation by the education authorities and reignited concerns over student safety in educational institutions.
The incident came to light when the girl’s father lodged a complaint with Childline, alleging that the assault left his daughter with severe ear pain and swelling.
Medical investigation confirms injury
The father alleged that his daughter returned home from school complaining of discomfort in her ear.
Upon inquiry, the child alleged that her social studies teacher, Rakesh Chaudhary, slapped her approximately 15 times during the class.
The child was reportedly taken to the Community Health Centre at Berthin where a doctor confirmed swelling in her ear.
Teacher denies allegations, says he merely scolded students
Rakesh Chaudhary, the accused teacher, has denied the accusations, stating that he merely scolded students during a test and did not physically harm anyone.
However, reports indicate that this was not the first such complaint against him. According to the school’s records, there have been two to three previous allegations of physical assault against him.
Childline supervisors Reena Kumari and Anupama visited the school to investigate the matter. They spoke with the student, her family and the teacher.
While the school administration attempted to mediate between the two parties, the parents refused to settle the matter amicably.
Childline has officially begun its inquiry, ensuring a thorough review of the accusations and the teacher’s past conduct.
