Says party now lacks old discipline

MANDI: All is not well in the Himachal Pradesh BJP over the allotment of the Lok Sabha election ticket from Mandi to Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut.

In an exclusive interview to The Newz Radar, senior BJP leader and Kullu royal family scion Maheshwar Singh said he was hurt at the scheme of things. “It definitely hurts when a dedicated party worker who has been associated with the BJP for decades is ignored and the ticket is given to someone (Kangana Ranaut) who is not even a primary member of the party. It’s sad,” he said.

A three-term former BJP MP from Mandi, Maheshwar Singh also didn’t rule out the option of switching to some other party when asked whether he had got an offer from the Congress. “Changing party is always an option in politics. There’s no problem in it. I have expressed my dissent to the party high command. I will wait for their decision before I take my next step,” he said.

Maheshwar Singh said when the BJP was a small party, there were less people, less officials and there was discipline in it. “At that time, the office-bearers could not claim the ticket. But today, the party has become bigger and office-bearers have also increased. There is lack of discipline and ticket contenders too are increasing. There are protests everywhere against Kangana being given the ticket. Both workers and voters are unhappy,” he said.

The BJP veteran said he would continue to wait and watch for some time before taking his final decision. “There is still ample time left for the Himachal elections. Changes can still happen,” he said.
