Munish Sood, Mandi
Strengthening urban connectivity and addressing future transport needs, Sadar MLA Anil Sharma has announced a series of infrastructure initiatives aimed at linking Mandi city more effectively with the four-lane highway and easing traffic congestion.
During a site inspection at Bindrabani near Mandi, Anil Sharma, along with senior officials, reviewed land options for a proposed modern bus stand and sports complex. He stated that Mandi city has effectively been bypassed following the construction of the four-lane highway and, in the coming years, most long-route buses are expected to operate outside the city limits. “Keeping this in view, the need for a modern bus stand will arise in the future,” he said, adding that suitable land is being identified on the pattern of the Scorer Road alignment.
The MLA further informed that a double-lane road costing ₹6.50 crore is proposed to connect Mandi city with the four-lane highway near the Malori Tunnel. The proposal is being forwarded to the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) through the state government.
Ambulance Bridge and Road Project to Be Dedicated Soon
Providing details of another key infrastructure project, Anil Sharma said that the ambulance bridge and road connecting Paddal with Old Mandi will soon be dedicated to the public. He said the project had remained stalled due to land acquisition issues, despite its foundation stone having been laid earlier by former Chief Minister Raja Virbhadra Singh.
Following discussions with Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh, approval has now been granted for the release of compensation through a demand draft. Under this, the Gymkhana Club and one private party will receive compensation amounting to approximately ₹8 crore, clearing the way for the bridge to become fully operational.

Road Widening at School Bazaar–Tarna Junction
The MLA also confirmed approval of a demand draft for the widening of the School Bazaar to Tarna Circuit House road junction. Under the project, the state government has sanctioned around ₹1.18 crore towards land acquisition and compensation related to tree felling, enabling improvement of traffic flow at this critical junction.
Development Plan Finalised for Vallabh College Area
Anil Sharma said that the design prepared by the Public Works Department for the development of the vacant space between the under-construction Vallabh College building and the old college structure has been finalised. The plan aims to fully develop the area and provide better, more organised facilities for deities during the annual Shivratri festival, enhancing both functionality and aesthetics of the college campus.
Modern Toilet Facility Near Bypass Hawkers’ Market
In another civic infrastructure initiative, a modern public toilet complex will be constructed alongside the under-construction rehri-fahri (hawkers’) market near the bypass. The layout has been prepared by the PWD and forwarded to the Mandi Municipal Corporation. The project is estimated to cost approximately ₹90 lakh.
Concluding his remarks, Anil Sharma expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh for approving the necessary proposals, stating that these projects will significantly improve connectivity, urban infrastructure, and public convenience in Mandi city.
