The Kangra district administration has announced the rollout of HPV vaccination camps aimed at safeguarding adolescent girls against cervical cancer. Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Vivek Kumar Karol confirmed that the initiative is being carried out under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa, with strong inter-departmental coordination to ensure maximum coverage.

Speaking at a district-level meeting, Dr. Karol emphasized the importance of early vaccination, noting that the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine is most effective when administered between the ages of 9 and 14. “This campaign is a crucial step in protecting the health of our daughters and reducing the future burden of cervical cancer in the community,” he said.

The camps will be organized at schools, health centers, and community hubs across Kangra, with support from Zonal Hospital Dharamshala and district health officers. Parents are being encouraged to bring their daughters for vaccination and to understand the long-term benefits of HPV prevention.

Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa highlighted the administration’s commitment to ensuring smooth execution of the campaign. “We have formed a dedicated committee to oversee logistics, awareness drives, and inter-departmental coordination. Our goal is to reach every eligible adolescent girl in Kangra,” he stated.

Cervical cancer remains one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths among women in India. The HPV vaccine, when administered at the right age, offers strong protection against the virus strains most commonly linked to cervical cancer. The Kangra initiative aligns with national health priorities to reduce cervical cancer cases through preventive vaccination.

For further information, families are advised to contact their nearest health center or school authorities regarding upcoming vaccination dates.
