Fire breaks out in gynaecology ward of Himachal government hospital in Una

A fire broke out in the gynaecology ward of the Regional Hospital at Una in Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday (February 4, 2025) morning due to a short circuit. At the time of the incident, over three dozen patients, including newborns, were present in the ward.
As soon as the fire erupted, Home Guard personnel and hospital nurses sprang into action, swiftly evacuating the patients to safety. Hospital staff attempted to control the blaze using fire extinguishers.

Electricity department promptly shuts down power supply

Upon receiving information about the incident, Medical Superintendent Dr Sanjay Mankotia, along with Senior Medical Officer Dr Vikas Chauhan and other doctors, rushed to the spot.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident. The electricity department responded promptly, shutting down the power supply and replacing the affected control panel.
The fire originated from an electrical control panel situated between two rooms of the gynaecology ward, causing smoke to spread throughout the hospital premises. Quick intervention by Home Guard personnel and nurses ensured the safe evacuation of all patients, including pregnant women and new mothers with their infants.

Patients temporarily shifted to another ward

The patients were temporarily shifted to another ward located behind the high-tech emergency unit.
Hospital staff managed to bring the fire under control using fire extinguishers. Thanks to the timely response and coordinated efforts of the hospital team, a major tragedy was averted.
