In a session that left students motivated and thoughtful, Himachal Police Service (HPS) officer Renu Sharma interacted with students at Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Nurpur, during the Udaan career counselling programme. The event was organised by The Newz Radar in association with Aarni University-Kangra, aiming to guide students on education, career planning and personal growth.
Renu Sharma, a 2010-batch HPS officer and currently serving as Additional Superintendent of Police, Anti-Narcotics Task Force, Kangra, shared insights from her remarkable journey in law enforcement. She holds an MPhil in Physics from Himachal Pradesh University and completed her schooling and graduation from Government Senior Secondary School and Government College, Hamirpur.
Her prior postings include Assistant Commandant, First Indian Reserve Battalion, Una; Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Dehra, Kangra; Deputy Superintendent of Police (HQ), Hamirpur; and Additional SP, State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau, Hamirpur.
Addressing the students, Renu Sharma emphasised discipline, perseverance and ethical conduct as cornerstones of success. She urged them to remain committed to learning, explore diverse career opportunities and build a foundation of strong values. “Education is not just about marks, but developing character, courage and consistency,” she said.
Renu Sharma also lauded The Newz Radar and Aarni University for the Udaan initiative. She also thanked the principal of Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Nurpur, for the support in making the event possible. “The Udaan initiative seeks to bridge the gap between aspirations and opportunities, particularly for students in semi-urban and remote regions of Himachal Pradesh,” she said.
The programme began with a traditional welcome, as Renu Sharma was honoured with a shawl and a cap. Sunil Chadha, Executive Editor of The Newz Radar, introduced the Udaan initiative, while the counsellor from Aarni University offered guidance on career options and skill development. The school principal extended gratitude to all organisers and guests for their support in student development.
Students actively engaged with the speakers, seeking advice on competitive exams, leadership skills and career choices. Teachers and organisers described the session as highly motivating, highlighting the role of real-life role models in shaping young minds.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks from the school principal, bringing the inspiring session to a close.
