Bharmour: The Government Senior Secondary School at Garola in Bharmour under Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh marked the World Environment Day with a vibrant series of awareness programmes and activities that highlighted the importance of sustainability and environmental conservation.
As part of the celebration, NSS volunteers and Eco Club members undertook a special initiative to collect single-use plastic waste from nearby villages and the Garola market. The collected waste was formally handed over to BDC member Pawan Sharma and other panchayat representatives, symbolising a collaborative effort between students and the local administration.

The day featured a range of competitions, including speech contests, quizzes, slogan writing and painting, with active participation from students across classes. The awareness events aimed to deepen students’ understanding of environmental issues and inspire collective action.
In the speech competition, Parul Sharma (Class 12) secured first place, followed by Aryan Sharma (Class 11) in second and Ashish (Class 12) in third.
In the quiz competition, Tanish Bhardwaj and Aryan Singh claimed first prize, while Aakarshit and Ayush were runners-up.

An environmental awareness rally was also organised by the entire school staff and students, spreading messages on the importance of preserving nature and reducing plastic use. Addressing the students, Principal Mehr Singh and BDC member Pawan Sharma emphasised the significance of tree plantation and environmental responsibility in everyday life.
At the conclusion of the programme, the winners were awarded by Principal Mehr Singh and BDC member Pawan Sharma, who appreciated the students’ enthusiasm and commitment. They also commended the school staff for successfully organising the event and promoting a culture of environmental stewardship.
