Teachers in Himachal Pradesh government schools who have for long been looking for a transfer to shift to a new place of posting can expect reprieve in the first week of April 2025 as the ruling Congress regime would then lift the ban on the process.
The decision to lift the year-long ban on transfers was taken during an education department review meeting held at the Secretariat in Shimla under the chairmanship of Himachal Pradesh Education Minister Rohit Thakur.
The Himachal Pradesh government had earlier imposed a freeze on transfers in 2024 to maintain continuity in academics. Now, with the current academic session ending on March 31, teachers will be given a specific window to apply for transfers before the process is halted again for the rest of the year.

Regulated transfers to ensure minimal disruption to studies

The minister expressed his support for a structured transfer policy but highlighted the challenges posed by the state’s geographical terrain. He emphasised that transfers should be conducted in a regulated manner to ensure minimal disruption to the education system.
The meeting also discussed the rationalisation of teaching staff, particularly in 127 schools currently functioning with deputed teachers. Officials have been instructed to expedite the appointment of regular teachers in these institutions.

New holiday schedule to be finalised in February

A revised holiday schedule for summer and winter schools in the state is also in the works. However, a final decision regarding the new vacation calendar will be made in the second week of February after further deliberation with stakeholders.
The Education Minister has asked for a comprehensive report on the discussions to be submitted soon. The meeting was attended by Education Secretary Rakesh Kanwar, State Project Director of Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan Rajesh Sharma, Director of Elementary Education Ashish Kohli and other senior officials.
