Shimla: Two former students of Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, have brought laurels to their alma mater by securing top positions in Himachal Pradesh’s most prestigious competitive examinations, highlighting the university’s growing contribution to state civil services.
Megha Singh Kanwar from the Haati region of Sirmaur district topped the Himachal Pradesh Administrative Services (HPAS) examination by securing the first rank in the unreserved category. Alongside her, Aanchal Ghunta from Nerwa subdivision also cleared the competitive examination and has been selected as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), marking a rare double achievement for graduates of Dr YS Parmar University.
From rural Himachal to top ranks
A resident of Khaniyud village in the Giripar-Pajhota belt, Megha is the daughter of Narendra Kanwar and Anita Kanwar. After completing her early education from a government school in Shaya Sanaura and Class XII from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Nahan, she pursued her graduation at Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry. By topping HPAS on merit, she has emerged as an inspiration for aspirants from tribal and rural backgrounds.
Aanchal Ghunta, hailing from Ghuntari village of Garha panchayat in Nerwa tehsil, is also an alumna of the same university, from where she earned her BSc degree. She completed her schooling up to Class XII from Shaheed Shyam Singh Government Senior Secondary School. Currently, she is serving as an excise inspector at Kandaghat, having earlier qualified the allied services examination.
Academic grounding, self-study key to success
Both achievers credit their university education for strengthening their analytical abilities and discipline, which proved crucial during exam preparation. Preparing largely through self-study, they demonstrated that strong academic foundations combined with perseverance can lead to success in highly competitive state-level examinations.

Speaking after the results, Megha said that sincerity, patience and continuous effort were the pillars of her success. She added that as an administrative officer, her focus would be on public welfare and transparent governance. Aanchal also underlined the importance of consistent hard work and determination in achieving long-term goals.
