Not carrying documents while ferrying goods costing over ₹50,000 can land you in trouble during elections

MANDI: Amidst the electoral proceedings, it’s imperative to retain invoices and documents while ferrying goods costing Rs 50,000 and above. Assistant Election Officer and Karsog SDM Raj Kumar conscientiously notified the populace in accordance with the model code of conduct that as per Sections 171( b) and 171(C) of the Indian Penal Code, any individual engaging in pecuniary transactions or any form of inducement during the electoral process, thereby impeding the right to vote, could face a penalty of up to one year of imprisonment or a fine, or both.

Flying squads have been meticulously deployed in each electoral constituency to prosecute both the purveyor and recipient of bribes. They fervently implored all denizens of the region to abstain from participating in any form of bribery during the electoral proceedings.

Moreover, they underscored the necessity of carrying pertinent documentation, such as bills, while transporting goods, respectively, during the electoral hustle. Additionally, if any individual is privy to bribery or its facilitation, prompt reporting to the Assistant Election Officer’s office, the 24-hour control room, or the complaint cell is strongly encouraged for expeditious redressal.

The Assistant Election Officer duly apprised all vehicle owners (excluding bicycles) in the precinct that utilising posters, loudspeakers, and other campaign paraphernalia sans permit during the state of Model Code of Conduct is a punishable offense under the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

They exhorted individuals to desist from deploying their vehicles for canvassing in favor of any candidate sans the requisite permit from competent authorities, thereby averting vehicular seizures by flying squads and monitoring teams.

Additionally, they underscored that no political faction or aspirant may affix banners, inscribe slogans, dispense pamphlets, etc., on personal properties, edifices, walls, or vehicles without the written assent of the property owner, with a mandatory requirement of written consent from the edifice proprietor.

Lastly, they iterated that any information impinging upon the electoral process can be expeditiously relayed to the Control Room or Complaint Cell via the designated telephone number 01907-222201 or toll-free number 1950.
