The plains and low-altitude districts of Himachal Pradesh continue to experience extreme heat, with the heatwave effect also reaching the hilly areas. The Meteorological Centre in Shimla has issued a yellow alert, warning that the heatwave will persist for five days across many parts of 10 districts in the state. Relief from the heat is not expected in the near future, with bright sunshine forecasted in all regions until May 27. As a result, temperatures are likely to rise further.
On Monday, the maximum temperatures recorded were notably high: Neri reached 43.9 degrees Celsius, Una hit 43 degrees, Bilaspur saw 42 degrees and Kangra recorded 39.6 degrees Celsius. On Tuesday, the weather remains clear across various parts of the state, including the capital Shimla.
The Meteorological Department has issued a heatwave alert for the districts of Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Solan and Sirmaur from May 21 to 25. The residents have been advised to take precautions to mitigate the effects of the extreme heat. The department recommends wearing light, light-coloured, loose cotton clothes and covering heads with cloth, caps or umbrellas to avoid direct exposure to the sun.
The minimum temperatures recorded across various locations in Himachal Pradesh were as follows: Shimla at 15.4°C, Sundernagar at 15.8°C, Bhuntar at 13.3°C, Dharamshala at 22.5°C, Una at 22.1°C, Keylong at 5.4°C, Palampur at 19.5°C, Solan at 15.8°C, Manali at 11.6°C, Mandi at 16.3°C, Bilaspur at 18.7°C, Hamirpur at 17.2°C, Chamba at 16.7°C, Dalhousie at 19.7°C, Kufri at 11.6°C, Kukumseri at 5.6°C, Narkanda at 9.4°C, Rekong Peo at 10.1°C, Dhailakuan at 21.0°C, Kasiyali at 22.4°C, Paonta Sahib at 27°C, Dehra Gopipur at 26°C, Tabo at 5.7°C, Sainj at 14.9°C and Bajaira at 13°C.
