Nadaun: The Himachal government is following the ideals of Lord Ram to work for the people, said state Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu while addressing election meetings in the region on Monday.
Sukhu said that former CM Jairam Thakur has challenged the ideals of Lord Ram and believes that he is over and above the Lord. Congress in Himachal received Lord Ram’s blessings to run the state government and serve its people. He claimed that even BJP’s stalwart and former CM Shanta Kumar is unhappy with the current politics of his party.
Sukhu said he is not the kind of person who will accept defeat in the face of corruption, lies, and evil. He said that Thakur’s political calculation is weak because he ignores the fact that with 34 MLAs Congress enjoys a majority in the 62-member House. Despite this Thakur goes around saying that come June 4 the BJP will form the government in Himachal Pradesh. He should stop daydreaming, Sukhu said. On June 4 he (Thakur) will be invited for tea in his capacity as leader of the Opposition with the Congress registering wins in the four Lok Sabha and six Assembly seats that are going to polls.
BJP cadre is pained that the party has given Congress rebels the ticket to contest the Assembly by-elections whereas it is clear that those public representatives who were bought over will not be supported by voters, Sukhu said adding if the turncoats are reelected then it would be dangerous for democracy.
Sukhu said that elections would continue to take place but during these elections, people have to save democracy. A public representative who gets bought cannot be a true public servant.
Sukhu expressed his surprise over the defection of Congress MLAs from this district. He said that a 100-bed hospital was set up in Sujanpur, Rs 5 crore was sanctioned for a hospital in Tauni Devi and none of the works suggested by the MLA was ignored. Lots of works were done in Badsar due to which people there praise the government but still, the MLA became a turncoat for money.
Sukhu said that he has been with Congress for the past 35 years and despite ideological differences with the former CM Virbhadra Singh the matters were discussed and sorted out within the party fold.
Sukhu said that several public-oriented decisions have been taken in the budget and the government has earned additional revenue of Rs 2200 crore by targeting corruption and illegal mining. New schemes for the people would be announced in the next budget, Sukhu said.
