MANDI: The district police claim to have busted a drug distribution network with the arrest of five Himachal Pradesh government employees in three separate cases in Mandi. The sixth accused fled the spot and jumped into a rivulet flowing nearby and his body was recovered on Friday.
During a routine checking at a police checkpoint three days ago, the police authorities seized drugs weighing 56.64 grams. The accused are school teachers and other government employees.
The accused have been found to be part of an illegal drug network, distributing drugs in Mandi city and its nearby areas. The police took swift action, arresting the five persons in connection with three separate cases. Officials said the arrested government employees were resorting to drug trafficking to make ends meet. In one case, suppliers from Punjab and Haryana were caught supplying drugs to locals in Mandi. Among them was a primary school teacher and an IT official from the electricity board. The seized drugs were being transported to various places as the traffickers had developed a distribution network.
Additional Superintendent of Police Sagar Chander said all the accused are on three-day police remand. The body of the sixth accused was recovered from Suketi Khud on Friday evening. He had been missing since April 3.
