In just 37 days this year, the Dharamshala Cyber Police Station has registered 42 cases of fraud, amounting to over Rs 1 crore.
Primarily, scamsters are exploiting people through customer care services, fake credit messages, and Telegram.
So far, more than 600 women have fallen victim to these schemes.
Of the 42 cases registered, 37 are in Dharamshala, while 6 have been transferred from Shimla. The scams involve various tactics, including offering fake rewards through gift messages and luring victims with promises of hotel bookings or YouTube subscriptions.
Retired individuals are particularly targeted, with scamsters leveraging social media to gather information and manipulate unsuspecting victims.
The Cyber Police Station is urging caution, especially when receiving messages related to Telegram and gifts, to avoid falling prey to these fraudulent schemes.
