BADDI (SOLAN): Fifteen workers are feared killed and several others trapped in a massive fire that broke out in a perfume-manufacturing factory at Jharmajri in Barotiwala area of industrial hub Baddi in Himachal Pradesh’s Solan district on Friday (February 2, 2024).
According to information, the fire broke out around 2 pm at Hilltop Company, which is a major unit manufacturing perfumes and deodorants. Reports said that 15 workers may have been feared killed in the fire, though official confirmation was yet to be made.
Upon receiving reports of the fire, the local fire department mobilised its teams to the site and commenced efforts to contain the blaze. Fire tenders have been rushed to the spot from Nalagarh and other adjoining areas and fire-fighting operations are in full swing. The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
The authorities and company officials struggled to extinguish the inferno as massive plumes of black smoke and fire were seen rising from the factory complex.
As the firefighting operations continue, authorities are focusing on ensuring the safety of all personnel involved and preventing any further escalation of the crisis. A senior police official said efforts were afoot to douse the flames and exact number of men trapped inside was not known.
