Himachal Pradesh weather update: Clear and sunny during the day, but it’s freezing at night in several towns

SHIMLA: Himachal Pradesh is currently experiencing clear and sunny weather, but a biting cold has descended with night temperatures plummeting well below normal levels. In the last 24 hours, numerous locations, including Shimla, Sundernagar, Bhuntar, Dharamshala, Keylong and Solan, have witnessed a significant drop in the mercury, with several areas reporting temperatures near freezing point.

Sundernagar recorded the lowest temperature at 0.2 degrees, closely followed by Bhuntar at 0.7 degrees, Solan at 0.8 degrees, Mandi at 0.5 degrees and Samdho at 0.2 degrees. The temperature dipped to minus 0.4 degrees Celsius in Kalpa and -4.6 degrees Celsius in Keylong.
In the high-altitude regions, Kukumseri in Lahaul-Spiti shivered at -7.2 degrees Celsius, while Baranti in Bilaspur reported a minimum of minus 0.1 degrees Celsius.

Shimla registered a minimum temperature of 7.5 degrees, a variance of 4.8 degrees above normal, and Dalhousie recorded 6.4 degrees, surpassing the typical temperature by 4 degrees. Dharamshala and Una reported minimum temperatures of 6.2 degrees and 3.5 degrees, respectively.

Meanwhile, the daytime temperatures have also experienced a decline across the state. Despite this, many areas still maintain temperatures higher than the average. In the last 24 hours, the maximum temperatures were recorded at 17.5 degrees in Shimla, 20.8 degrees in Sundernagar, 22.4 degrees in Bhuntar, 14.4 degrees in Kalpa, 21 degrees in Dharamshala, 14.6 degrees in Una, 11 degrees in Keylong, 18.5 degrees in Mandi and 22 degrees in Solan. Manali recorded a maximum temperature of 16.4 degrees, Dalhousie 17.8 degrees, Kukumseri 14.7 degrees, Reckongpeo 16.9 degrees and Samdho 12.5 degrees Celsius.

Looking ahead, the Meteorological Department has predicted a change in weather pattern starting from January 16. There is a possibility of light rain and snowfall in some high-altitude areas on January 16, followed by the likelihood of light rain in medium-altitude areas and additional rain and snowfall in high-altitude regions on January 17.
