Under the CSIR-Smart Village Mission Project, the CSIR-Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology (CSIR-IHBT), Palampur successfully conducted a 10-day hands-on beekeeping training programme in Janakpur village of Raisen district, Madhya Pradesh, from October 15 to 24, 2026.

A team of researchers from CSIR-IHBT trained local farmers in scientific beekeeping practices, equipping them with essential knowledge and practical skills to adopt beekeeping as a sustainable source of income. The training covered key aspects such as hive management, colony migration, supplementary feeding, hive sanitation, and the identification and significance of bee flora.

To encourage the adoption of beekeeping at the village level, CSIR-IHBT distributed 10 bee boxes with live bee colonies along with essential beekeeping equipment to the participants.

Speaking on the initiative, Dr. Sudesh Kumar Yadav, Director, CSIR-IHBT, emphasized the institute’s commitment to rural development through scientific interventions. He noted that by combining scientific knowledge, practical training, and resource support, CSIR-IHBT continues to promote rural empowerment, sustainable agriculture, improved crop pollination, and enhanced income opportunities for farming communities.

The initiative is expected to strengthen livelihood options for villagers while contributing to agricultural productivity and environmental sustainability in the region.
