Mandi: The Rotary Club of Chhoti Kashi Mandi organised the second installation ceremony of the Interact Club at Takshila School, Mandi, on Friday, marking another step towards nurturing leadership, teamwork and a spirit of community service among students. The Interact Club was established at the school last year, and the latest ceremony saw the installation of its new team of office-bearers.
Gopika was installed as President, Sneha as Secretary, Devarsh as Vice President and Sumit as Treasurer. Rtn. Sudarshan Kaur, President-elect of the Rotary Club of Chhoti Kashi Mandi, served as the installation officer and administered the oath of office to the incoming President and other office-bearers. She also explained their responsibilities, emphasising that leadership involves commitment, integrity, teamwork and a willingness to serve.
Rotarian Anuradha Sood and Rtn. Amar Kaur were also present at the ceremony and pinned badges on the newly installed office-bearers, formally recognising their roles and responsibilities.
Addressing the gathering, Sudarshan Kaur spoke about Rotary’s philosophy, objectives and commitment to humanitarian service. She explained how Rotary brings people from different professional backgrounds together to identify community needs and work collectively towards meaningful solutions. She highlighted the importance of introducing young students to these values at an early age and said that Interact Clubs provide an effective platform for developing leadership qualities, social awareness and a service-oriented outlook.
Rotary Club trainer Munish Sood, in his address, emphasised that education should go beyond academic achievement and focus equally on character-building, discipline, compassion and social responsibility. He said that young people must be encouraged to become confident individuals who understand their responsibilities towards society.
Referring to Rotary’s guiding principle, “Service Above Self,” Sood explained that it means placing the welfare of others above personal interests and contributing to the betterment of the community. He encouraged students to participate in activities related to environmental protection, cleanliness, health awareness, education and assistance to underprivileged people.
He further stressed that leadership was not merely about holding a position but about accepting responsibility, respecting different opinions and motivating others to work towards a common goal. He urged the newly installed office-bearers to involve all members in the club’s activities, encourage fresh ideas and maintain effective coordination with the school authorities and the sponsoring Rotary Club.
The newly installed President, Gopika, and Secretary, Sneha, also addressed the gathering and expressed their commitment to carrying forward the objectives of the Interact Club. They emphasised the importance of teamwork and active participation in initiatives that benefit the school and the wider community.
Interact, a youth programme of Rotary International for young people aged 12 to 18 years, provides students with opportunities to develop leadership, organisational and communication skills through service projects and collaborative activities.
The second installation ceremony reaffirmed the Rotary Club Chhoti Kashi Mandi’s commitment to encouraging young people to become responsible citizens and future community leaders. Through the continued functioning of the Interact Club, students at Takshila School will have a platform to turn their ideas into action, develop a spirit of volunteerism and contribute positively to society in the spirit of Service Above Self.
