Shimla:In a pivotal legal clash, scheduled for December 4th, India’s government initiatives and private electricity giants, including NTPC, BBMB, NHPC, and SJVN, contest the constitutionality of the Himachal Pradesh Water Charges Act. Arguing that their agreements with central and state governments exempt them from water charges, the companies assert that the Act contradicts constitutional principles.
The court was apprised that despite central directives against collecting charges from government initiatives, the Himachal Pradesh government allegedly persists. This case follows previous challenges by private hydroelectric firms, intensifying the scrutiny on the controversial legislation.
