In its relentless crackdown against the illegal drug trade, Nurpur Police has once again achieved a significant breakthrough. Acting on swift intelligence, the CIA Nurpur team apprehended two individuals with 676 grams of charas (cannabis resin), reinforcing the district’s commitment to eradicating narcotics from the region.
The Operation
On the evening of September 13, 2026, the CIA Nurpur team was conducting routine patrols and monitoring suspicious activities in the Lab Chowk area. During the operation, credible information was received that two men were engaged in drug-related dealings near the Shiv Temple in the village of Kaihriyan.
Responding immediately, the police team, accompanied by independent witnesses, intercepted the suspects a short distance from the temple. Upon lawful search, a bag carried by one of the individuals was found to contain 676 grams of charas, which was duly sealed and taken into police custody.
The Accused
- Kumar Chand (37 years), resident of Bhulang village, Post Office Sudhar, Tehsil Paddar, District Mandi.
- Rakesh Singh alias Lucky (52 years), resident of Kaihriyan village, Tehsil Jawali, District Kangra.
Both suspects were taken into custody on the spot.
Legal Action
The seized narcotics were formally confiscated, and an FIR (No. 175/2026) was registered at Jawali Police Station under Sections 20 and 29 of the NDPS Act. Investigations are underway to trace the supply chain and uncover the wider network linked to this illegal activity.
