Heavy rainfall late Friday night triggered a massive landslide at Ghāri near Kakira on the Lahdu–Tunuhatti road. Around 11 PM, a giant boulder rolled down onto the road, completely blocking traffic.
Vehicles were stranded on both sides, forcing passengers—especially those in night service buses—to spend the entire night inside. Early in the morning, the Public Works Department (PWD) deployed two JCB machines and a full team to clear the debris. The rock was so large that it took nearly three to three-and-a-half hours to remove.
By around 10:30 AM, the boulder was finally pushed down the slope, and the road was reopened for both light and heavy vehicles. Commuters trapped overnight breathed a sigh of relief as traffic movement resumed.
This incident highlights the vulnerability of mountain roads during monsoon season, where sudden landslides can cause severe disruptions and pose risks to travelers.
