The Public Works Department (PWD) Dalhousie Division has begun work on a new road that will reduce the distance between Dalhousie and Banikhet from 7 km to just 4 km.
PWD Sub-Divisional Officer Ankush Kumar informed that the new route is being developed from Subhash Chowk in Dalhousie via Kathlag. Cutting and widening work has already started, and the project is expected to be completed within two months. Once finished, small vehicles will be able to travel smoothly between Dalhousie and Banikhet using this shorter road.
He added that the route is an old pathway, now being upgraded for vehicular traffic. The construction will benefit residents of Kathlag village, locals of Dalhousie, and tourists alike. The alternative road is also expected to ease traffic congestion and reduce the problem of jams in the area.
