The election for Zila Parishad Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson was successfully conducted today at Bachat Bhawan, following the provisions of the Himachal Pradesh Panchayati Raj Rules, 1994.
All 18 Zila Parishad members participated in the meeting, which was presided over by Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Mukesh Repswal. Additional Deputy Commissioner Amit Mehra and District Panchayat Officer & Secretary Mahesh Chand Thakur were also present.
For the post of Chairperson, Rekha Thakur from Bayana ward was declared elected with 10 votes, defeating Meenakshi Kapoor from Jiyunta ward, who secured 8 votes. Similarly, Liaqat Ali Khan from Sarol ward was elected Vice-Chairperson with 10 votes, while Sunil Dutt from Ghaira ward received 8 votes.
After the counting process, Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repswal administered the oath of office and secrecy to the newly elected Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson. He extended his best wishes and emphasized that all Zila Parishad members will play a vital role in the development of Chamba district.
