DC expresses gratitude to all district residents

Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer (Panchayat) Mukesh Repswal has extended heartfelt thanks to the voters, media representatives, officials, employees, police, and Home Guard personnel of Chamba district for ensuring the successful and peaceful conduct of the Panchayati Raj Institutions General Elections 2026.
Addressing a press conference at Bachat Bhawan, he stated that the elections held on May 26, 28, and 30 were conducted in a calm and orderly manner. Results were declared on May 31 following the counting process. Throughout the election period, law and order remained completely normal, with no untoward incidents reported.
Repswal informed that nearly 3,800 staff members and 700 police/security personnel played a crucial role in the smooth conduct of the elections. The district recorded an impressive 81.01% voter turnout, with 77.03% male participation and 84.39% female participation. The highest turnout was in Tissa block at about 85%, while the lowest was in Bharmaur block at around 74%.
A total of 3,30,882 voters exercised their franchise, including 1,60,714 men and 1,70,108 women. He added that 400 ward members, 7 vice-pradhans, 4 panchayat pradhans, and 1 panchayat samiti member were elected unopposed. Congratulating Karwal Gram Panchayat of Salooni block for being elected unanimously, he announced an incentive grant of ₹25 lakh for the panchayat.
Altogether, 7,807 candidates contested, resulting in the election of 18 Zila Parishad members, 135 Panchayat Samiti members, 319 Panchayat Pradhans, 319 Vice-Pradhans, and 1,793 Ward Members.
Extending best wishes to all newly elected representatives, Repswal expressed confidence that they will work with dedication towards rural development, public welfare, and resolving local issues, thereby playing a vital role in the holistic progress of Panchayats.
