SHIMLA: The Himachal Pradesh cabinet led by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu took several key decisions at a meeting of the council of ministers held here on Monday.
Among the key decisions was the state cabinet’s approval for finally granting Scheduled Tribe status to Haati community living in trans-Giri belt of Sirmaur district. Chief Minister Sukhu will visit Sirmaur on January 3 to address the local community.
Giving further information, it was said that the cabinet has approved the issuance of notification granting Scheduled Tribe status to Haati community living in Trans Giri belt of Sirmaur district.
The state government has also brought out a scheme for differently abled children. An integrated educational institute will be built for such children and when the child completes school, integrated education will be provided in the same school.
Apart from this, the cabinet approved the second phase of the Rajiv Gandhi Self-Employment Scheme. Under this, youth having three bighas of land will get Rs 20,000 per month. For this, equity of Rs 240 crore will be given to the Electricity Board. The third phase of this scheme will also come.
The economy of the villages will be strengthened by this. Chief Minister Sukhu said that the government is starting the scheme from January 8. All the members of the state cabinet and MLAs will go to their respective areas to start the ‘Government at the Village Door’ programme. They will visit all the panchayats and give information about the schemes.
Rajya Sabha on Wednesday passed a bill to accord the Scheduled Tribe status to the Hattee community in Sirmour district of Himachal Pradesh.
Meanwhile, the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Third Amendment) Bill 2022 was cleared by Parliament in July 2023. Piloting the bill in Rajya Sabha, Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda had said the bill provides justice to the Hattee community of Trans Giri area of Sirmour district in Himachal Pradesh. He noted that with the passing of the bill, the ST population in Himachal Pradesh will go up to 5.5 lakh from 3.5 lakh currently.
The bill follows the recommendations of the Himachal Pradesh government that the Hattee community be included in the list of Scheduled Tribes in respect of the state.
