A major accident was narrowly avoided on the Chamba–Bharmaur National Highway 154-A on Tuesday afternoon.
According to reports, around 3 PM near Maihla, heavy boulders suddenly fell from the hillside onto the road. At the time, a private National Bus Service vehicle was en route from Palampur to Holi.
The falling rocks shattered the bus’s front windshield, and one large stone struck the steering area, injuring the driver’s hand and leg. Despite the injuries, the driver managed to control the vehicle with presence of mind, preventing a serious tragedy and saving the lives of passengers onboard.
The incident caused panic at the site for some time. Local residents have urged the district administration to implement strong safety measures along vulnerable hillside stretches of NH-154A to prevent such incidents in the future.
