Three-Phase Panchayati Raj Elections Announced in Chamba District

Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer (Panchayat) Mukesh Repaswal has announced that the Panchayati Raj General Elections–2026 in Chamba district will be conducted in three phases to ensure smooth and fair polling.

  • Polling Dates: May 26 (Phase I), May 28 (Phase II), and May 30 (Phase III)
  • Coverage: Elections will be held in 319 Gram Panchayats across 1,793 wards
  • Electorate: A total of 399,858 voters are registered, including 196,932 women and 202,926 men.

The district administration has set up 1,019 polling stations, categorized as 840 normal, 133 sensitive, and 46 highly sensitive. To manage the process, 3,813 officials and staff will be deployed.

Special arrangements have been made for remote and high-altitude areas, including polling at Chask Bhatori (4,500 meters) in Pangi and Tepa village (3,667 meters) in Tissa block. Notably, several voters above 100 years of age will participate, alongside 1,741 first-time voters aged 18 years.

Under the Incentive Scheme for Unopposed Panchayats, financial rewards will be provided:

  • ₹25 lakh for Gram Panchayats
  • ₹50 lakh for Panchayat Samitis
  • ₹1 crore for Zila Parishads

DC Repaswal urged all voters to participate actively and responsibly, emphasizing that each vote strengthens democracy and contributes to transparent governance.
