The district headquarters of Chamba will host a series of events on March 8 to mark International Women’s Day and Chamba Day together. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mukesh Repaswal announced the details during a press briefing at Bachat Bhawan.
Heritage Walk to Showcase Chamba’s Legacy
The celebrations will begin at 8:30 a.m. from the Bhuri Singh Museum with a Heritage Walk. Participants will be guided through Chamba’s ancient temples, historic sites, and cultural landmarks, offering insights into the town’s rich heritage.
District-Level Ceremony at Akhand Chandi Mahal
Following the walk, a district-level program will be held at the historic Darbar Hall of Akhand Chandi Mahal.
- Self-help groups, artisans, and craftsmen will set up stalls to promote local handicrafts and products.
- Cultural performances will feature participation from ASHA workers, Anganwadi staff, and women from self-help groups.
- Distinguished women from Chamba who have excelled in various fields will be honored.
- Meritorious girl students from Classes 10 and 12 will also be felicitated.
Academic Engagements
In continuation of the celebrations, three special lecture sessions will be organized at Government Postgraduate College, Chamba. Successful women from diverse fields will interact with students, sharing their experiences and achievements.
Call for Public Participation
DC Repaswal urged residents, especially the youth, to participate actively in the programs, highlighting the dual significance of commemorating Chamba’s historic integration into India in 1948 and celebrating women’s empowerment.
District Tourism Officer Rajiv Mishra and media representatives were present during the announcement.
