In a sweeping enforcement drive in Nadaun — the home constituency of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu — authorities uncovered serious irregularities in hotels, homestays, and food outlets during surprise inspections on Tuesday.
The crackdown was spearheaded by Sub-Divisional Magistrate Nishant Sharma, who led a joint team comprising police officials, Municipal Council representatives, the Food and Civil Supplies Department, and members of the local Beopar Mandal. The raids, which continued until late afternoon, targeted establishments operating private cabins and rented accommodations.
Officials reported finding several school and college students inside secluded cabins built within cafés and on upper floors of certain businesses. In addition, hotel rooms were allegedly being rented out without mandatory entries in guest registers — a clear violation of regulatory norms.
Taking strong exception, SDM Sharma issued stern warnings to owners of hotels, homestays, and eateries. Station House Officer Nirmal Singh cautioned that businesses found running unauthorized cabins or renting rooms without proper documentation would face strict legal consequences.
Authorities noted that many of the cabins had been constructed on upper floors, hidden from public view. While owners claimed these were intended to provide “family privacy,” officials observed that the reality did not match such explanations.
The SDM also appealed to parents to remain vigilant about their children’s movements after school hours, stressing that the inspection campaign would continue.
This development comes amid rising concern over incidents involving minors across Himachal Pradesh, adding urgency to administrative efforts aimed at tightening oversight and ensuring youth safety.
