The traditional state-level historic Holi fair in Palampur commenced today with a grand procession that filled the town with festive colors and cultural vibrancy. The event was inaugurated by Palampur MLA Ashish Butail.
The procession began from the PWD Rest House and passed through major routes before culminating at Gandhi Ground. Accompanied by the beats of drums, folk instruments, and colorful tableaux, the procession showcased the region’s rich cultural heritage. Various social and cultural organizations, women’s groups, youth clubs, self-help groups, and schoolchildren participated enthusiastically. Artists dressed in traditional Himachali attire performed folk dances and songs, captivating the audience. Citizens welcomed the procession with flower showers, adding to the joyous atmosphere.
At Gandhi Ground, a grand “Maha Nati” performance was organized, further enhancing the festive spirit.
In his address, MLA Ashish Butail emphasized that Holi is not merely a festival of colors but a symbol of love, brotherhood, and social unity. He highlighted the importance of such fairs in preserving cultural heritage and passing it on to future generations. He urged the youth to uphold local traditions and actively contribute to social development.
Butail also praised the organizing committee and administration, noting that such events promote tourism while providing a platform for local artists and artisans. He appealed to everyone to maintain cleanliness and harmony during the celebrations.
The inaugural ceremony witnessed the presence of a large number of dignitaries, administrative officials, panchayat representatives, and local citizens. Among those present were SDM and Fair Committee Chairman O.P. Yadav, Wool Federation Director Trilok Chand, Mayor Gopal Nag, Deputy Mayor Raj Kumar, along with departmental officers, councilors, trade union members, and townspeople.
