Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s recent criticism of the BJP has drawn a sharp rebuttal from the party. BJP state media co-incharge Advocate Vishw Chaksu accused the Chief Minister of attempting to cover up his government’s administrative failures and financial mismanagement by blaming the Centre and BJP leaders.
BJP’s Counterattack
- Chaksu said the state government’s weak preparation and presentation before the 16th Finance Commission led to the current financial crisis.
- He argued that if Himachal Pradesh had effectively presented its case for Revenue Deficit Grant (RDG), the situation would not have worsened.
- The BJP leader dismissed Sukhu’s repeated references to meetings with the Centre, calling them “political and administrative failures” with no tangible results.
On Grants and Restructuring
- Chaksu criticized Sukhu’s use of Article 275 as an emotional ploy, stressing that grants and Finance Commission recommendations are based on set procedures, not political pressure.
- He clarified that loan restructuring is not a new initiative, but part of the Centre’s ongoing commitment to support states.
Allegations of Political Drama
- The BJP accused the Chief Minister of turning the all-party meeting into a publicity stunt rather than a genuine attempt at finding solutions.
- Chaksu said Sukhu failed to share a meaningful agenda beforehand and instead used the meeting venue and process to create unnecessary controversy.
Financial Concerns
- According to the BJP, Himachal Pradesh is sinking deeper into debt, development projects are stalled, and employees are facing delays in salary payments.
- Chaksu contrasted this with the previous BJP government, which he claimed had provided a stable financial base despite challenges.
Warning to the Chief Minister
- The BJP warned that the people of Himachal will judge the government by results, not emotional speeches.
- “The public is wise and will respond to the truth in due course,” Chaksu said.
- He emphasized that the BJP has always stood for Himachal’s interests and will continue to do so, but distorting facts for political gain is harmful to democracy.
