Bringing pride to Mandi district, a young boy from village Rakhoh in the Sarkaghat subdivision has been selected as an Assistant Commandant (General Duty) in the Indian Coast Guard. Paras Parashar, a native of Rakhoh village, will now undergo officer training at the prestigious Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala, in Kannur district of Kerala, starting January 19, 2026.
Son of Narresh Parashar and Santoshi Parashar, both serving in the education department, Paras has built an impressive academic and sporting profile. He completed his schooling from KV Bainy School, Kullu, pursued his graduation from DAV College, Chandigarh, and later completed his MSc from Panjab University, Chandigarh.
A multi-talented achiever, Paras has also represented at the national level in cricket and has been actively involved in student leadership and campus politics. In 2022, he was elected General Secretary at DAV College, Chandigarh, and later contested the Panjab University students’ union elections in 2024 under the N501 banner, securing a strong second position.
Family members said Paras draws inspiration from his late grandfather, Megh Singh Parashar, whom he considers his guiding force and role model.
The selection has triggered celebrations across Rakhoh and the entire Sarkaghat region, with residents calling it a moment of honour for the area. Local MLA Chandrashekhar congratulated Paras on his achievement and wished him a bright and successful future.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu also congratulated Paras Parashar through a social media post, calling his achievement a symbol of hard work, discipline and dedication to national service. He said the success of the young officer is a matter of pride not only for his family but for the entire state and will inspire Himachal’s youth.
With his selection as a Group ‘A’ gazetted officer in the Indian Coast Guard, Paras Parashar is now set to begin a new chapter of service to the nation, carrying the hopes and pride of his hometown and the entire district.
