Panic has once again spread across Khani Panchayat in the tribal region of Bharmour after a fresh bear attack was reported within a month, underscoring the growing human-wildlife conflict in the area.

On Monday afternoon at around 12:30 p.m., Guddi Devi (65), wife of Karam Chand, was attacked by a bear while walking towards nearby houses in her village Khalaili. The sudden assault left her seriously injured. Locals rushed her to the Civil Hospital Bharmour, where she was given first aid before being referred to Chamba Medical College Hospital.

Dr. Dipesh Kumar, BMO Bharmour, confirmed that the victim has reached Chamba Medical College and that her condition is stable, though she remains under treatment.

This incident marks the second bear attack on women in the same panchayat within a month. Alarmingly, seven people have already lost their lives to bear attacks in this region, leaving the community deeply fearful.

The local Panchayat Pradhan has submitted a memorandum to the Bharmour administration, demanding urgent intervention to curb the rising threat.

In response, Bharmour–Pangi constituency MLA Dr. Janak Raj has called upon the administration and the Wildlife Department to take immediate preventive measures. He stressed the need to install solar fencing systems around residential areas to minimize recurring conflicts between villagers and wild animals. Dr. Raj stated that such steps are vital to safeguard lives and prevent further tragedies.

Local residents and Panchayat representatives echoed these concerns, urging authorities to act swiftly to ensure safety in the tribal belt.
