In view of the rising incidents of fire reported from various parts of Himachal Pradesh, the state Fire Department conducted a special fire safety training programme at Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College in Chamba to enhance preparedness and awareness among hospital staff.

The programme was organised for security personnel, doctors, students and employees from different departments of the medical college. During the session, officials from the Fire Department provided detailed information on fire prevention measures, emergency response and methods to control fire at the initial stage.

The training included demonstrations on the correct use of fire safety equipment such as extinguishers. Participants were also given hands-on experience, enabling them to operate the equipment themselves so that they can respond swiftly and calmly in real-life emergency situations.

Medical College Principal Dr Pankaj Gupta, along with doctors and staff members from various wings, attended the programme. The training was conducted by Lekh Raj from the Fire Department, who acted as the resource person.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Pankaj Gupta said that several incidents of fires in hospitals have been reported across the country in recent times, making fire safety awareness extremely important. He said the objective of the training was to ensure that all hospital employees are well-informed about immediate response measures and necessary precautions in the event of a fire.

Resource person Lekh Raj said the staff was trained in basic emergency actions and safety protocols to be followed during fire incidents. He added that such preparedness can help minimise damage and ensure the safety of patients, staff and visitors during any emergency.
