Strengthening rural economy priority, says Himachal CM Sukhu at opening of Rs 3.21 crore animal husbandry office in Dharamshala

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Friday (November 28, 2025) inaugurated the newly built office of the Deputy Director, Animal Husbandry, in Dharamshala.
Constructed at a cost of Rs 3.21 crore, the facility is equipped with upgraded infrastructure aimed at providing better services to cattle rearers across Kangra district.


Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said the state government was committed to boosting the rural economy by supporting livestock farmers.


He pointed out that the purchase price of milk had been raised by Rs 21 per litre over the past two and a half years. Transportation subsidy has also been doubled from Rs 1.50 to Rs 3 per litre, while farmers who carry milk themselves to procurement centres located more than two kilometres away are now eligible for an additional Rs 2 per litre subsidy.


“These steps are delivering direct benefits to dairy farmers and improving their income,” Sukhu said.

Major boost to milk processing capacity

Sukhu informed that a new milk processing plant with a capacity of 1.5 lakh litres per day was being established at Dhagwar in Kangra district. The Duttnagar plant in Shimla district has also been upgraded to handle higher volumes.


The Chief Minister said MILKFED had witnessed remarkable growth due to the government’s initiatives and was now procuring nearly three lakh litres of milk daily, up from 90,000 litres during the previous BJP government.

Leaders, officials attend inauguration

Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Minister Chander Kumar, MLA Suresh Kumar, Wool Federation Chairman Manoj Thakur, Congress leaders Devinder Singh Jaggi and Ram Chander Pathania, Animal Husbandry Secretary Ritesh Chauhan, Animal Husbandry Director Sanjeev Kumar Dhiman and several other dignitaries were present at the inauguration ceremony.
